Deceptive Juror Found In Liberty City 7 Trial

MIAMI (CBS4) ―
News of a potential "deceptive" juror is impacting the jury selection process in the Liberty City 7 Terrorism Trial.
Federal prosecutors in the Liberty City 7 trial disclosed Friday that they ran criminal background checks on everyone in the jury pool and found a female potential juror who didn't tell the court about her criminal past.
Defense lawyers say this particular potential juror had been arrested more than 20 times, had 6 felony convictions, and was said to have used 4 different aliases.
Defense lawyers and prosecutors want her booted from the trial and in another interesting twist, prosecutors observed this particular juror making hand signals to another male juror.
In court, the male juror, who has three earrings, said he was once a drummer for Rock and Roll legend James Brown.
Because it would appear both jurors know each other, case insiders say it's likely both will be excused from service in this particular case.
So far, 40 potential jurors have been determined to be "qualified" to sit on the trial.
The court needs a total of 54, before each side begins exercising their challenges to excuse certain jurors, whittling the pool down to 12 jurors and 4 alternates.
Defense Lawyer Albert Levin, who represents one of the 7 men going on trial, says he expects a panel to be selected by Wednesday, with opening statements to begin Thursday or the following Monday.
