Miami Airport Employees Get New Security Training
MIAMI (CBS4/AP) ―
Miami International Airport has stepped security and has become the first airport to train civilian employees on detecting suspicious behaviors.
Starting Thursday, all employees will be trained in "behavior pattern recognition" so all workers -- from janitors to skycaps -- can be on the lookout for potential terrorists.
The airport is the first in the country to expand such screening efforts to civilians.
About 16-hundred Miami-Dade Aviation Department employees will receive four hours of training. The first class will include 50 to 75 upper level administrators.
Eventually, the course will be offered to 35-thousand airport employees, including those who work for airlines, skycap services and various vendors.
An airport spokesman says the goal is to have as many eyes and ears in the airport as possible and it's not a training course in racial profiling but a way to train individuals on how to spot suspicious behavior.
