Fla. Senate Stalls On Marlins Stadium Funding

Diaz Met With Governor Charlie Crist Wednesday

Some Senate Leaders Say Bill Won't Pass This Year

TALLAHASSEE (AP) ― Miami Mayor Manny Diaz has spent a lot of time at the Capitol this week lobbying lawmakers for help in building a new ballpark in South Florida for the Florida Marlins.

The bill to provide state funding for a new Marlins stadium is a perennial issue before the Legislature. The outcome isn't usually resolved until the final hours of the legislative session.

The House has already passed a bill that would provide a $60 million dollar tax break to help build the new stadium, but the Senate isn't being as cooperative. Some Senate leaders have said the issue won't pass in that chamber this year.

Diaz met with Governor Charlie Crist today.
