Biscayne Re-Opens After Crane Is Secured

Father, Son Worked On Sky-High Construction Crane

Traffic Had Been Shut Down All Week

DOWNTOWN MIAMI (CBS4 News) ― Miami Police have re-opened Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami after a construction crane responsible for the death of one worker was secured late Thursday.

Miami's main street, which had been closed most of the week due to the accident, causing a traffic nightmare, was re-opened just after 11 PM Thursday after crews determined the crane as now safe.

Monday's accident at the high-rise condo project left one man dead. 48 year old Jesse Morris, of Douglasville, Georgia fell to his death as he and his 20 year old son, Jesse Jr., tried to re-position a crane being used in the building's construction. The two men worked as a construction team until death ended their partnership. Jesse Jr. was saved by a safety harness. Co-workers helped pull him to safety.

Crews had to being in a second crane to remove the disabled crane from the building, and that work caused the closure of Biscayne Boulevard.
