Group Protests Low Income Housing Debacle
by Jawan Strader
MIAMI (CBS4/MIAMI HERALD) ―
In light of the Miami Herald's controversial investigation on how low-income housing officials squandered their budget, some community groups are asking for an emergency relief plan to get people homes.
Low-income residents were joined by representatives of the Miami Worker's Centers Tuesday in a rally where they are asking for immediate action in finding people homes. The Scott-Carver homes is considered by many as one of the system's failed housing projects. The group gathered claims the system has been full of false promises for housing since the beginning, long before the Miami Herald investigation was published.
"This is not about firing," said Sushma Sheth of the Miami Worker's Center. "This is about a broken system and this is about money that was stolen."
Sheth, along with the dozens present at the protest, is asking for immediate plans to get residents into homes and to bring those responsible to justice.
County officials were not available for comment on the matter.
