Heat Stars Golf For Charity After Winning Finals
by Shomari Stone
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4 News) ―
Just a day after the incredible high of Miami's Parade for Champions, the stars of the Miami Heat championship team took some time to slow down on the golf course, and it was all for charity.
Shaquille O'Neal, Udonis Haslem and others hit the links Saturday at the Miami Beach Golf Course as part of the second annual DJ Irie weekend, a fundraiser for Miami Heat Charities.
DJ Irie, the man behind the beat and excitement at Heat games, organizes the weekend events to raise money for the Heat's charity programs, which aids a number of South Florida organizations and charitable works.
O'Neal demonstrated why he sticks to hoops instead of links, making a good attempt at 18 holes but raising a few catcalls from friends as he traveled the course.
Haslem was also among those playing, and he told
CBS4's Shomari Stone he was there because "It's all about the community, because it's the future."
DJ Irie says he looks forward all year to the chance to give back to the community, and he expects to stage the third annual weekend at the end of next season.
