Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal had surgery today to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. He'll be sidelined four to six weeks.
The procedure lasted about 45 minutes, and was performed by team physician Doctor Harlan Selesnick. O'Neal injured the knee in a collision with Houston's Chuck Hayes last Sunday.
The 13-time All-Star averaged 14 points and seven-and-a-half rebounds in his first four games for the defending N-B-A champions. He is expected to begin rehabilitation this week.
