MIAMI (CBS4) ―
South Florida gets its first look at the world's largest cruise ship Monday as Royal Caribbean's "Liberty of the Seas" pulls into the Port of Miami.
The "Liberty" is the sister ship to "Freedom of the Seas" which shares the title of world's largest ship.
The "Liberty of the Seas" will dock at the Port of Miami after a private weekend cruise.
The ship carries 3,634 guests and has more than 20 restaurants and lounges as well as a long shopping arcade.
Like "Freedom", the "Liberty" features onboard surfing, cantilevered whirlpools suspended 112 feet above the ocean, and a water park for kids. It also will introduce innovations that include a vitality wellness program, Explorer Weddings which give couples a chance to get married while doing adventurous activities, and new activities for kids.
Godmother Donnalea Madeley will officially name the line's newest ship on May 18th, before the ship sets sail on her maiden voyage May 19th.
Madeley is an Ontario travel agent who was selected from nearly 2,500 nominations of women travel agents who have demonstrated dedication to philanthropy and service in their communities.
Liberty will alternate between seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.
Liberty's Western Caribbean itinerary will call at Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Labadee, Royal Caribbean's private destination in Haiti.
The Eastern Caribbean itinerary will call at San Juan, Puerto Rico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Labadee, with a third day at sea.
The two Freedom-class ships will be joined by a third, Independence of the Seas, when she debuts in Europe in May 2008. Sailing from the United Kingdom, she will be the largest ship to be home-ported in Europe.
