Chilly Weather Grips South Florida
mw
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Residents around South Florida were clammering for some extra covers Saturday morning, as they awoke to temperatures in the 40's. Unfortunately, warmer weather will not be returning anytime soon.
Saturday's high temperature only reached 63-degrees and colder weather is on the way for early Sunday morning, with warm relief not expected to make its way into the area until Tuesday.
The Salvation Army of Broward County, 1445 West Broward Blvd. opened their doors to homeless people who needed a place to stay during the cold weather.
Local animal shelters appealed to the public to donate warm materials they can use to keep animals warm with temperatures expected to drop. They are also reminding residents with pets to make sure they bring them indoors this weekend.
There is a freeze watch in effect for the far inland Everglades portions of Broward County through Saturday night. A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
The chilly weather should continue into next week. High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s Saturday and about 70 degrees Sunday and Monday with plenty of sunny skies.
