NASA is another step closer to getting the space shuttle Discovery off the ground and into orbit.
Sunday, Discovery was rolled out from its processing hangar to the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center.
The transfer to the massive assembly building had been delayed several days for last-minute repairs to the spaceship's landing gear. Technicians discovered a leaky seal, which had to be replaced.
This week, the shuttle will be hoisted vertically and attached to the external fuel tank and its booster rockets.
Officials said the shuttle should be ready to head to the launch pad in about one week.
Liftoff remains scheduled for Oct. 23.
Discovery is set for an important construction mission in which it will deliver a new connecting hub, called Harmony to the International Space Station that will serve as the anchoring point for new laboratories built by the European and Japanese space agencies.
Retired Air Force Col. Pamela Melroy will serve as the commander of the mission. Melroy is a veteran shuttle pilot, and it will be the second time a woman has commanded a shuttle.
