A judge presiding over a Miami terrorism trial has excused two jurors and one alternate for reading a pamphlet on terrorism.
The brochure, which lists seven "signs of terrorism," was distributed by Miami police officers at Metrorail stations last week. A copy of it ended up in the jury room on Monday. The three jury panel members who said they read or skimmed the pamphlet were dismissed.
Most of the other jurors and alternates said they saw the leaflet and noticed it was about terrorism, but did not read it.
Lawyers for all but one of the defendants argued that a mistrial was in order. The judge denied those motions.
The seven defendants are accused of planning terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and providing material support to al Qaeda.
