Victim Dies Crushed In Krome Car Accident
by Marybel Rodriguez
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS News) ―
A driver died inside a small car that was crushed by two tractor-trailer trucks at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Okeechobee Road Tuesday afternoonthe impact so intense, you could barely make out that there was a car between the two trucks.
It had been more than a year since a serious accident of this nature occurred on Krome Avenue, a roadway that often made headlines for the amount of fatal accidents that would shut down the road on a daily basis. Parts of Krome were shut earlier in the evening but has since reopened.
Officials say the car involved was making a left turn from Okeechobee Road onto southbound Krome Avenue, when it somehow got in the way of a tractor-trailer truck carrying cars on it. The truck became engaged with the car and kept barreling down the road until it smashed into the second tractor-trailer truck, which was waiting on Krome Avenue to turn into Okeechobee.
Neither truck driver suffered injuries.
The driver of the car carrier has been identified as Rene Antonio Pravia, of Miami. The driver of the other truck is Freddy A. Castillo of Tampa.
The victim in the car hasn't been identified yet by the Florida Highway Patrol. Charges are pending the investigation.
