Sirens To Sound At Turkey Point, But It's A Drill

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) ― When you hear the alarms going off in homestead Friday, don't worry, it's only a drill.

Florida Power and Light, the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Homeland Security have planned a test of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant's outdoor warning sirens.

Nearly 50 sirens are scheduled to sound at 1:00 p.m. The test will last one minute.

Before and after the sirens go off, a message will be broadcast in English and Spanish letting people know that the warning is just a test.

In a real emergency, the sirens would go off for five minutes followed by instructions or information on radio and television.

For more information, call the Miami-Dade Answer Center at (305) 468-5900, which will be activated during the siren testing.
