Championship Gators Saluted In State Capitol

lc
TALLAHASSEE (AP) ― It was University of Florida Day at the Capitol.

UF President Bernie Machen and the school's mascots, Alberta and Albert, were on hand. Bob Vila was also there. He's a 1969 Florida graduate who hosted "This Old House" on the Public Broadcasting System for ten years and then "Bob Vila's Home Again" for 15 years.

Vila recalled paying 12-hundred dollars for his tuition.

Senator Steve Oelrich, a Republican from Cross Creek whose district includes the UF campus, noted that the university's enrollment includes students from all 50 states.

The Legislature also saluted the school's national championship football and basketball teams for their accomplishments. The university sandwiched a football championship in January between the 2006 and 2007 basketball titles by coach Billy Donovan's basketball team.
