Winds Bring Erosion To Northern Palm Beach

dg
JUNO BEACH (CBS4) ― If you find enough sun Monday to head for the beach in Palm Beach County, prepare to have less space to lay out that beach towel. Rough weekend weather took a bite out of beaches in the northern part of the county.

Ocean Rescue supervisor Chuck Price blamed the northeastern winds, which he says take a hard toll in sand migration, which is the technical term for wind and waves moving sand from one part of the coastline to another.

The erosion is most noticeable in the areas north of Juno Beach. Price says some erosion is normal this time of year. It becomes a concern however if the northeastern storms come in succession and start affecting the dunes and lifeguard towers.

The winds are expected to continue Monday.
