Fallen Officer Honored With A Plaque

dl
TAMARAC (CBS4) ― A plaque honoring a fallen Broward Sheriff's deputy has been unveiled at the BSO District Office in Tamarac.

Deputy Brian Tephford was killed in November of last year during a traffic stop in the city of Tamarac. As Tephford sat in his vehicle running information he received from the driver of the car, the passenger, identified by BSO as Eloyn Ingraham, jumped out of the car and began firing at Tephford and Deputy Corey Carbocci who had arrived on the scene.

Neither deputy had a chance to pull their weapons. Tephford was not wearing a protective vest and was pronounced dead at Broward General Medical Center. Carbocci, 37, who was standing near Tephford's cruiser when he was shot, was wearing a protective vest was critically injured.

During the plaque's dedication ceremony Tuesday, Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne spoke of Tephford's dedication to the life he had chosen.

Tephford, a member of BSO's Field Force, was honored as Employee-of-the-Month in December 2005. In January 2003, Sheriff Jenne presented him with BSO's prestigious Lifesaving Award for saving the life of a suicidal inmate.
