Church Members: We Were Scammed Out Of Our Homes
jm
BROWARD COUNTY (CBS4) ―
Some Broward residents could lose their homes, and they blame a woman at their church.
Pamela Simmons, who's a single mom, said she was having trouble paying her mortgage when a woman at her church told her about a company, National Foreclosure Management, which could help save her home.
But Simmons, and several others from the church, ended up losing their homes and their equity when the company didn't pay the mortgages as they promised.
"I just cried," said Simmons, "I'm tired of crying, though, I'm tired of hurting from this. I just want it to be over."
Simmon's lawyer said National Foreclosure Management targeted vulnerable homeowners at their place of worship.
"In several of the cases, the victims were actually taken from church directly to the National Foreclosure offices where the initial transactions commenced," said George Castrataro with Legal Aid Services of Broward County.
National Foreclosure Management is now out of business. No one associated with the company faces criminal charges as yet, and the church where they met did nothing wrong.
