State Gains Time On Gambling Deal With Seminoles
jm
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―
It looks like the state has breathing room to make a deal with the Seminole Tribe over bringing Las Vegas-style gambling to their casinos.
Governor Charlie Crist's office says the U.S. Interior Department wants an update on the negotiations September 11th. That's three weeks past the Tuesday deadline the state was giving to negotiate a compact with the tribe.
The tribe is looking to bring in so-called Class III games like blackjack and roulette to its casinos because the state allowed Las Vegas-style slot machines in Broward County.
The state is seeking a share of the Indians revenue, as well as regulatory oversight over some of the operations. In exchange, the Seminoles could be given exclusive rights to those games.
