Teacher Accused Of Misconduct To Turn Himself In

(CBS4) A North Miami Beach math teacher accused of showing a photo of his genitalia to a student has turned himself into police.

51-year old Edison Munoz has been charged with violating the protection of minors law which prohibits certain acts in connection with obscenity and battery.

The 17-year-old student told detectives she was in class May 17 when Munoz pulled out his black-and-silver Motorola phone that featured a photo of his son. She asked to see the picture and he allegedly obliged, but then he insisted she take a look at more pictures on his phone.

The second time around the victim claims that there was a picture of a penis. That's when Munoz told her the penis was his own, police said.

Munoz has no criminal past and has been reassigned to administrative duties where he will not be in contact with students, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Munoz defense attorney, Ronald Manto, said his client plans on pleading not guilty.
