Fugitive Boy Band Svengali Arrested In Asia

tc
ORLANDO (CBS4) ― The Florida man responsible for creating the musical sounds of The Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync has been arrested in Indonesia

It is alleged that Lou Pearlman used a fake accounting firm to secure personal and business loans. Authorities in Indonesia handed him to the FBI, who took the fugitive impresario to the US territory of Guam. Lou Pearlman will appear before a federal judge on a bank fraud charge. He is being held there until another hearing next week.

A lawsuit and a lengthy state complaint accuse him of operating a long-running, multimillion-dollar scam. Officials hope Pearlman's arrest will help clarify his puzzling financial picture. US officials still don't know how deep the debt goes or how many assets are left. So far, few have been discovered. During his heyday Pearlman was involved in numerous projects, including talent scouting, restaurant and other ventures.
