Soccer Penalty May Be Jail Time For Hitting Ref

KENDALL (CBS4) ― A South Florida man faces possible jail time after being arrested for allegedly attacking a referee during a soccer game.

According to police, Amador Yenkenes, 57, was arrested at the Kendall Soccer Park last weekend after he punched referee Nicholas Sismanidis in the jaw.

The referee said Yenkenes got angry and enraged when he was ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Yenkenes faces a third degree felony instead of a first-degree misdemeanor due to a tougher law passed in 2004 concerning battery on a sports referee.

If he's convicted, he could face up to three years in prison.

Yenkenes is expected in court next month.
