Four Other Airports Included In Surge

MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Officials with the Transportation Security Administration are scheduled to announce a "security surge" at Miami International Airport and three other Florida international airports on Tuesday.
The "security surge" is the first in a series of operations that will help improve employee security measures at airports around the nation.
Besides Miami International Airport, more than 160 security officers, aviation inspectors, federal air marshals and others are being dispatched to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa. A fifth airport, the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is also included in the safety plan.
The upgraded security measure comes on the heels of last weeks incident in Orlando, where two airline baggage handlers allegedly used their employee uniforms and airport identification cards to enter restricted areas and avoid security screeners.
That led to four arrests in connection with a drug-smuggling ring that bypassed Orlando airport security to send guns and drugs to Puerto Rico.
