CUTLER BAY (CBS4) ― Police in Broward County have found the car they believe was driven by the suspect wanted in the murder of a Miami-Dade police officer and the shooting of 3 police officers with a semi-automatic rifle.

Miami-Dade police Commander Linda O'Brien said Shawn LaBeet was believed to be driving a Black 2007 Pontiac Vibe with the Florida tag W59EPT. That car was found in a parking lot at a Target store in Oakland Park, at Oakland Park Boulevard and Federal Highway, shortly before 4:30 pm Thursday.

O'Brien said the car had been seen in Central Broward County after 2:30 pm, and of special concern to investigators, he was reported to have a women and 2 children in the car. When the car was found, the woman the children were discovered, as well as a man who was not the suspect. All are being questioned by by police. The Pontiac was rented out to LaBeet's brother, Shane LaBeet. It's possible that the women and children who were found at the car are Shane's girlfriend and children.

Police had issued a bulletin for his car, and sealed off his Margate home at 6119 NW 19th court, but he was not found there either.

LaBeet was identified as the suspect mid afternoon Thursday, after police initially gave the erroneous name and picture of another man

The man first identified as the suspect was later found to be in Jacksonville, and was determined to have no involvement in the shooting.
