All Our Rain Not Helping Lake 'O'

jm
WEST PALM BEACH (CBS4) ― One would think with all the rain South Florida has experienced over the last week or so, water restrictions would be a thing of the past.

But while Miami Dade and Broward have been drenched, the area around Lake Okeechobee remains relatively dry which means we could see tightened water restrictions again next year.

CBS4's news partners at the Miami Herald report with just over 46-inches of rain this year, Miami Dade is above its yearly average, while Broward has just about reached its yearly average with 42-inches of rain. However, the rest of the South Florida Water Management District, which runs from Orlando to the Keys including the area around Lake Okeechobee, is still recording rain shortfalls of anywhere from 7 to 13 inches.

As of Wednesday, Lake Okeechobee was about 9.81 feet about sea level, or nearly 4 feet below normal.
