Iran Asking For More Info On Missing S. Fla. Man
jm/ap
WASHINGTON D.C. (CBS4) ―
Still no official word on what may have happened to a former South Florida FBI agent who vanished during a business trip to Iran.
The U.S. State Department has officially contacted their counterparts in Iran about the whereabouts of 59-year old Robert Levinson of Coral Springs. The last time anyone saw him, he was on the resort island of Kish in the Persian Gulf while working on a film.
Officials in Iran have said there is no evidence that Levinson has disappeared, but declined to say where he may be. They've reportedly asked U.S. officials for his flight records, and any possible itinerary, so that they can conduct a more thorough investigation.
"We miss him and love him very much. We are worried about him and want him home safe and sound as soon as possible," his wife, Christine Levinson, and other relatives said in a statement to The
Associated Press.
"This has been a very difficult time. In the past 48 hours, as this has become public, we've heard from many of our friends. We are touched and so grateful for the support and prayers we've received," the family said.
The family asked for privacy "as we do everything possible to bring Bob home."
Levinson, a linguistics expert with the FBI in New York and Florida, left the agency a decade ago. He currently runs a private security company, and is a principal at Business Integrity International, an international investigative firm in Miami and New Jersey.
