MIAMI (CBS4) ―
A students claims she was raped by a math teacher at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach this year, all as part of a lawsuit against the Broward County School board.
Attorney Jeff Herman, who has become known for filing the majority of abuse cases against priests in South Florida, announced the lawsuit Tuesday afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale. The suit alleges that on March 2nd the 15-year-old Lauderhill teenager was attacked by Conraad Hoever when she returned to Hoever's empty classroom to retrieve her cell phone.
The identity of the student is being protected because of her age.
The school board reassigned Hoever to the district's textbook warehouse on March 5th, where he won't have contact with students. Disciplinary action will be taken pending the outcome of the case.
The lawsuit also claimed that on two separate occasions, two years ago, two different female students at Blanche Ely High complained to school officials that the same teacher sexually attacked them.
"We believe that if the school board would have acted properly and responsibly, this teacher would have long been removed," said Herman.
Hoever pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual battery, one count of sexual molestation and one count of false imprisonment. His next hearing in the criminal case is July 6.
