3 Suspected Of Helping Shawn LaBeet Remain Jailed

Charged As Accessories, They Wanted Their Bond Reduced

SLIDESHOW: 4 Officers Shot, 1 Has Died

Fact Center: 4 Miami-Dade Officers Shot

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Several people charged with being accessories to the murder of Miami Dade Police Officer Jose Somohano will be staying put behind bars.

Thursday a judge denied a bond reduction request for 47-year old Alba Bello, 35-year old Lazaro Guadiola, and 24-year old Alain Gonzalez.

Last weekend, a judge set bail at $250-thousand for each of three who are being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

During Thursday's proceeding, CBS4's news partners at the Miami Herald report Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Rosa Rodriguez ruled the trio would have to stay in jail because they could not prove that the money used each person's $25-thousand cash bond was clean. Normally, this type of ruling is reserved for drug cases where defendants must proved that the funds used to pay for bond and legal fees have been obtained legally.

Investigators say the group helped hide LaBeet from police after Thursday's shooting and they believe that they also helped arrange transportation for LaBeet to get out of Miami-Dade and into Broward County.

Also charged in the case, as an accessory after the fact, was Shawn Labeet's brother, 32-year old Shane LaBeet. Hours after the shooting, police found a car rented by Shane at the parking lot of a Target store in Oakland Park. He was found there, along with his girlfriend and two children, but no signs of his brother.

Labeet's 26-year old girlfriend, Renee D'Angelo, posted a $50-thousand bond last Sunday and was released according to Miami Dade corrections.

D'Angelo is charged with being an accessory after the fact because she gave a false name for Shawn LaBeet while police were searching for him, which caused delays in the investigation. She told police his name was "Kevin Wehner", which was an alias he was using.

Also in custody is 22-year-old Jaleel Torres, nephew of LaBeet, who was arrested and charged with resisting an officer with violence. His bond was set at $5-thousand.

According to Miami Dade police, Shawn LaBeet was driving a red 4-door Buick LeSabre at a high rate of speed when officers on a burglary detail in the Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood spotted him speeding.

When they tried to pull him over for a traffic stop, LaBeet took off running into the backyard of his home. Officers Somohano and Christopher Carlin went after him but there were dogs in the backyard and both officers retreated to the front yard.

At the same time, LaBeet's girlfriend pulled into his driveway in a white Honda. LaBeet suddenly appeared and began firing at the officers, striking four of them.

Somohano suffered fatal injuries. Carlin, 34, was shot in the leg. Officer Tomas Tundidor, 37, was shot in the right calf. They were both treated at local hospitals and released. Officer Jody Wright, 32, was shot in the lower extremities. She suffered massive injuries, underwent hours of surgery, and is expected to undergo several reconstructive surgeries for her recovery.

After the shooting, LaBeet and D'Angelo fled in her Honda. The Honda was found abandoned alongside a canal with a high powered military grade type rifle underneath the car.

It's believed LaBeet ran to Bello's home at 12914 SW 202nd Street and hid there until someone else came to pick him up. Authorities say LaBeet was friends with Bello's son, Alain.

Hours later, LaBeet was found about 30 miles north of the original shooting scene, at 305 SW 85th Terrace in Pembroke Pines where he was killed by police after an exchange of gunfire.

Police also say that LaBeet had fraudulently purchased nine weapons, under his alias 'Kevin Wehner', between the six month period of December 2005 and March 2006. He had bough six assault rifles and 3 handguns during that time.
