Brother Of Accused Cop Killer Back In Court
jm
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The brother of the man accused of gunning down Miami Dade Police officer Jose Somohano, and injuring three other police officers, will be back in court Thursday.
Shane LaBeet, brother of Shawn LaBeet, will be arraigned on an $80-thousand dollar bond.
Wednesday, Miami Dade Police officer Jody Wright whose knee was shattered during the shoot out with LaBeet was released from the hospital. Officer Christopher Carlin and Officer Tomas Tundidor were both grazed by bullets that day in September but have since recovered.
Police say that after killing Somohano and wounding the other three officers on September 13th, LaBeet drove to 47-year old Alba Bello's home at 12914 SW 202nd St., where he dumped his white Honda in the backyard. Then Bello, her boyfriend 35-year old Lazaro Guardiola and her son 24-year old Alain Gonzalez drove LaBeet to a wooded spot near the Everglades, where his brother, Shane, picked him up and drove him to his nephew's home in Miami Gardens.
From there, it's not known how LaBeet made it to Pembroke Pines, where he was shot and killed by a Miami-Dade Police tactical team about 12 hours after the original police shooting.
Last week, Shawn LaBeet's girlfriend, Renee D'Angelo, was the only one of half a dozen suspects charged with being accessories after the fact, who appeared in court as the judge set a trial date of January 22nd. D'Angelo was charged after she gave a false name for LaBeet while police were searching for him, which caused delays in the investigation. She told police his name was "Kevin Wehner", which was an alias he was using.
She was also assigned a public defender by Judge Rosa Rodriguez.
In addition to Bello, Guardiola, Gonzalez, LaBeet being held as accessories, Shawn LaBeet's nephew 22-year old Jaleel Torres was charged with resisting an officer with violence.
Earlier this month, an attorney for Bello, Guardiola and Gonzalez asked the judge for a bond reduction, each is being held on $250-thousand. The judge denied the motion because they cannot prove the bond money is legitimate.
