Gas Mileage Is What Makes The 'Smart Car' So Smart

(CBS4) It certainly isn't your typical car. It's actually the gas powered "smart car" made by Mercedes Benz. What makes it so smart? The gas mileage.

The vehicle is designed to achieve 40 plus miles per gallon under normal driving conditions and current standards. Stripped down it costs $21,900, but with 8 gallons of gas lasting around 480 miles, you'll be spending a lot less time gassing up and paying out a the pump.

The car is geared toward commuters or people running around town for errands. The Smart Car may be really small, in fact, it makes the mini cooper look down right spacious, but the vehicle is roomier than you think.

It's also faster than it looks. The three cylinder turbo can hit 95 miles per hour on the highway.
