MIAMI (CBS4) ― If you like to travel, Spring Break is always a popular time to book a cruise or beach vacation, especially if you have kids. But if you thought the sinking economy would sink your Spring Break vacation think again.

"When it comes to vacation, that's top priority," Dusty Tonkin told CBS-4 Your Money reporter Gwen Belton.

Getting a good deal also tops the list for Tonkin who travels with his wife April and kids Zander and Zoie at least four times a year. Spring Break is one trip they always look forward too.

"It always helps to try to get the most we can for our money especially with the economy the way it is, but we're going to try our best to keep going," said Tonkin's wife April.

Going on vacation doesn't have to mean breaking the bank, according to travel expert Emily Kaufman.

"The travel industry is not just hungry for your business, they're really starving for it and they're doing all they can with added value packages."

Known as The Travel Mom, Kaufman who also has a background in early childhood development, has written numerous articles and published a book about traveling for busy moms.

She says travel deals are better than ever this year, from airfare, to hotels, to cruises.

"For example, VisitOrlando.com has more than 100 offers on their website with free hotel nights, free meals, and free accommodations just by going to their website," explain Kaufman.

She also suggests checking out Southwest Airlines, which has launched a web only airfare sales promotion starting as low as 49 dollars.

To find these deals Kaufman says surf the web and book early.

For those of you staying home for vacation, also known as a "stay-cation, she says it doesn't have to be boring.

Consider being a tourist in your own town; visit local parks, museums and zoos.

"Right now is a wonderful time to travel and stretch your travel dollar," said Kaufman.

Whatever your plans are, Kaufman says the bottom line is that you're creating memories that will last a lifetime.
