Parents Sue School After Teen Touches Bat

REDDING, Calif. (AP) ― The parents of a teenager are suing his high school for failing to alert them after their son picked up a sick bat.

Richard and Annette Torres say their 17-year-old son needed a series of costly and painful rabies shots after the incident last August at Shasta High School.

The lawsuit was filed April 22 in Shasta County Superior Court against the high school and the Shasta Union High School District. The family is seeking at least $25,000 in damages.

The complaint says school administrators failed to keep students away from bats that have colonized the school.

School district Superintendent Mike Stuart says he cannot comment on pending litigation.
