Strange Lights Spotted Over St. Augustine
Skeptics Say There's A Logical Explanation
ST. AUGUSTINE (CBS4) ―
Call in Scully and Mulder.
Strange lights in the sky have been spotted near St. Augustine.
Residents who live near St. Augustine's airport say they are used to planes flying overhead, but Saturday night something else was in the sky.
"I looked up and it was like these two fiery balls like flying across the sky, sort of in a formation, they were like flying towards each other," said Brandon Puckett.
Reports of strange lights were limited to Florida.
A man in Germany posted a video on line which showed the same fiery globes.
But not everyone is ready to jump on the UFO bandwagon. They say there is a rational explanation for the occurrence in the Florida sky; sky lanterns life-size hot air balloons traditionally used in Asian festivals.
An internet post on a north Florida newspaper's website said two sky lanterns were released in Jacksonville Saturday as part of a wedding reception. The lanterns can rise nearly five thousand feet and travel for miles.
