Families Find Strength After Officers Are Murdered
DAVIE (CBS4) ―
They shared their strength and their pride, which in so many hearts makes the pain of the fallen just a little easier to bear.
The names sound out and the memories come rushing back, of BSO Deputy Chris Reyka gunned down in the line of dutyhis killer still at large.
Reyka's wife and daughter and other family paid him honor and reminded a community that the survivors are heroes too.
"Although sadness and anger touch our days, we still have feelings of love, hope and pride," said his widow Kim Reyka.
They also remembered BSO Deputies Paul Rein, slain last year during a prisoner transport and Brian Tephford, shot and killed during traffic stop two years ago.
"I have three young children and must go on," said widow Stefanie Tephford. "You can't let the evil people in this world ruin your life."
BSO Deputy Maury Hernandez moved on. He survived a gunshot to the head last year, and through his own recovery only wants to be a source of strength for others.
"Something that has really helped me out is to help others, and not worry about myself," said Hernandez.
Strength and solidarity, and a promise to march on through the tears and the hurt, and loss, keep the fallen and what they meant to their families and community always alive in their hearts.
