BRP Spyder Roadster Arrives In Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ― It's part motorcycle, part sports car, and all high-tech. At first glance the body of this vehicle resembles a snowmobile. The company making it is known for the Ski Doo, but now Bombardier Recreational Products has rolled out the Spyder.

Todd Matthews with BRP said, "Everyone wants to experience that open air feel of a motorcycle but for one reason or another cannot ride a motorcycle" Situated on three wheels, Matthews said, just about anyone can operate it.

The trike comes with either a semi-auto or manual transmission. "It's working the paddle then twist grip throttle and go" Matthews added.

One thing this roadster doesn't do is crawl. It does zero to sixty in four seconds. reaching speeds of up to 110mph. According to BRP, it's not only quick on its custom wheels, technology makes it safer.

Isaias Araiza has been looking to buy one for the past year. A rider with more than thirty years experience, he told CBS4 Mobile Journalist Jim Robinson, "it feels good, plus the added safety and what i love more is the computer assisted riding a lot of safety factors.'

Araiza and others are test driving the roadster Riva Motorsports in Pompano Beach where the vehicles are already being sold. A track with cones guides drivers around a track. For riders with a motorcycle endorsement, 45-minute ride is available to open it up.

When it comes to gas milage, Matthews said, "35 miles per gallon is what you're going to get with the Spyder" that means stopping less for Araiza.

"I've got a range of maybe a 125 miles before I have to buy, this is 200, I love it," Matthews said.

So how much does it cost? The SM5 MSRP starts at $16,199. The Can-Am Spyder SE5 MSRP starts at $17,699. They come in three colors.
