Chrysler Cars Still Covered By Florida's Lemon Law
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―
Amidst all of the bad news surrounding Chrysler and its subsidiaries, is the good news that drivers who purchased a Chrysler will still have the same rights under the Florida Lemon Law. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum announced the news on Wednesday after striking a deal with Fiat.
The Italian automaker is taking a large stake in Chrysler LLC as part of the company's bankruptcy reorganization. Chrysler filed for bankruptcy protection in April of 2009.
Florida's Lemon Law requires car makers to buy back or replace defective cars and trucks if they haven't been fixed after a reasonable number of tries. It applies to new and demo vehicles and those under long-term leases.
According to numbers from the last Florida Lemon Law report, Chrysler led all automakers with 295 cases approved for arbitration. The company tied Ford for most liability awards by the state's arbitration panel with 23 percent of the total of 171 cases.
