The state's private universities, while battling decreased endowments and budget cuts, have been aggressively recruiting students this past year, even those who might think a $22,000-a-year price tag is out of reach. They're holding open houses to educate prospective students about what they offer. They're limiting tuition increases and offering incentives. Their efforts are showing signs of success. Most of the state's private colleges were able to maintain their enrollments or see modest increases. Department of Transportation officials arrested and charged the driver, 31-year-old Richard Garfield Coulton, with marijuana trafficking after Thursday's discovery. The Orlando man, who is originally from Jamaica, was reportedly on his way from Arizona to Miami. Police say the bike was laying in a front yard Friday when Markese White and Christopher Langston, both 18, grabbed the bike and took off. The bike's owner saw the teens leaving and chased them. As they were going through an intersection, White has hit by a car. He was taken to a nearby hospital and initially listed in serious condition. Langston was arrested Friday and charged with petit theft. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports that the bus was not carrying any passengers Saturday morning when it hit 66-year-old Robert L. Lewis. Authorities say Lewis was crossing Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and apparently didn't see the bus. Internal affairs documents show that Brown asked a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop employee to serve him after the store closed for the day on April 20. The employee gave Brown two scoops, but the officer did not pay for the ice cream. A neighbor told police she saw the 7-year-old waving from the family's home Thursday morning and then alone in the driveway about 25 minutes later.
