'Noles Must Win 2 Of 3 To Avoid Losing Year
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) ―
It wasn't the 80th birthday Bobby Bowden had hoped for.
The Florida State coach observed his birthday Sunday while reviewing a fourth quarter collapse at Clemson that led to a 40-24 defeat late Saturday night.
The loss leaves Florida State (4-5, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) in danger of its first losing year since Bowden's inaugural season at the school in 1976.
The Seminoles are likely to be without quarterback Christian Ponder this weekend at Wake Forest and then close out against Maryland and at archrival Florida. Ponder suffered a dislocation on his right throwing shoulder.
Florida State must win two of its remaining games to avoid a losing season and be bowl eligible.
