A Hendrick spokesman says that Alesha Gainey is in critical condition at a North Carolina hospital awaiting an emergency liver transplant. She is the 29-year-old daughter of John Hendrick, one of the 10 people killed in a 2004 plane crash. Also killed in that accident were John Hendrick's twin nieces.

Graham Has A Coming-out Party For Miami

Jimmy Graham has an announcement. He's not a basketball player anymore. The way he played this weekend against Duke might have proven that. Perhaps an overlooked storyline of Miami's 34-16 win over Duke on Saturday was how Graham — the 6-foot-7 former forward for the Hurricanes' basketball team — was relied upon at key times. He had five catches for 73 yards, both season-highs by a wide margin, with four of those catches coming in third-down situations.

Balanced Scoring Leads Akron Past Howard 69-52

Nikola Cvetinovic and Chris McKnight scored 13 points apiece to lead a balanced attack in Akron's 69-52 victory over Howard on Sunday. Anthony Hitchens and Brett McClanahan each added 10 points for the Zips (2-2), who led by as many as 29 before resting most of their starters at the Glenn Wilkes Classic. Calvin Thompson scored 13 points to lead Howard (0-5). The Bison were coming off a 33-point effort Saturday against Georgia State and went more than eight minutes without a basket during the first half Sunday.

Bills Without CB McGee Against Jaguars

The Buffalo Bills are without cornerback Terrence McGee against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Running back Reggie Bush and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis are inactive for the Saints with knee injuries. Cornerbacks Tracy Porter and Chris McAlister also are sitting out as New Orleans tries to remain unbeaten. Bush did not practice during the week because of swelling in his left knee. Ellis sprained his right knee against Miami last month.

Bowden Starts Eyeing Top-ranked Gators, Tebow

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden can't wait to play against Tim Tebow — for the final time. Bowden began preparations Sunday for top-ranked Florida and its Heisman Trophy quarterback, who Bowden ranks among college football's all-time great players. Bowden, whose Seminoles are winless against the Gators since 2003, described the muscular 245-Tebow as the rare combination of a fullback and nifty quarterback.

Charleston Southern Defeats Stetson 80-64

Jamarco Warren scored 16 points and Kelvin Martin added 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Charleston Southern to an 80-64 victory over Stetson on Saturday night. Smith hadn't been a factor in the second half because of foul trouble at the Glenn Wilkes Classic. But after the Wolfpack (3-0) saw a 16-point halftime lead trimmed to four with 1:06 remaining, the junior forward scored on a putback and also hit the free throw after he was fouled on the shot. The Governors (1-3) trailed 37-21 at halftime before nearly pulling off a repeat of their win at Akron a week ago in which they came back from 15 down in the second half.

Vokoun Makes 32 Saves, Panthers Beat Rangers 3-2

A letdown would have been understandable one night after Nathan Horton and the Florida Panthers pulled out an overtime victory at Detroit. Instead, it was the New York Rangers who finished the game with an empty feeling. Horton, Jordan Leopold and Steven Reinprecht scored goals and Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves as the streaking Panthers beat the slumping Rangers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Southern Methodist Tops Florida Gulf Coast 79-62

Paul McCoy and Mouhammad Faye scored 18 points apiece Saturday night as Southern Methodist defeated Florida Gulf Coast 79-62. The score was 31-31 at the half, but McCoy's 3-pointer on the Mustangs' first possession of the second half put them ahead for good. Justin Haynes contributed 17 points off the bench for SMU (1-2), which led by as much as 19 points and shot 60 percent in the second half as Faye and McCoy each scored 13 points after halftime. McCoy and Papa Dia had eight rebounds each for the Mustangs.
